No Further Development of Screenshot for Symbian OS
Development August 5th. 2007, 2:35pmI am sorry to announce that there will be no further development of Screenshot for Symbian OS. The last versions can still be found here:
- Screenshot for Symbian OS (for S60 3rd) version 2.60
- Screenshot for Symbian OS (S60 1st/2nd) version 2.50
- Screenshot for Symbian OS (UIQ 2)
The full source code is still available at SourceForge.net:
What is the reason behind my decision? It is because Symbian Signed for Freeware is more or less dead now. There is no official statement from Symbian yet, but my last freeware application has been stuck there for more than 3 months. I have sent emails to some Symbian persons who might be able to help; but got no response.
Here is a response from R.H. (initial of a person who works for Symbian) on July 3, 2007.
Hi Zishan,
Could you please let Antony know the state of his application?

The Symbian Signed Team

I got no further follow-up from him or Zishan. For your information, Zishan was the person from CellMania who used to do signing. I have sent email to him several times as well, but got not a single reply.
Here is another response from H.W. (another Symbian guy) on July 22, 2007.
Hi Antony
FYI SymbianSigned let me know that their looking into this on Friday … I haven’t heard back from them yet though.

Did I try different channel to get my application signed? Yes, indeed. As a Forum Nokia Champion, there was an offer for signing from Forum Nokia.

I have sent my application to the email address given above on July 4, 2007. Unfortunately, I don’t get any reply either after 1 month.
I have also tried to raise the issue about Symbian Signed for Freeware to many discussion boards and blogs. Here are some of them:
- Freeware Symbian Signed at Symbian Discussion Board
- Selling my applications at Forum Nokia Discussion Board
- An Open Letter to Symbian Signed Authority at Antony’s Mobile Blog

This really sucks!
I’ve been following your previous posts regarding this issue and I was hoping that it would be resolved.
Symbian signed must be in a sorry state of affairs if they’ve let this happen.
Thanks for developing such an amazing application! I sincerely hope that you will resume development once the situation at Symbian signed improves.

Thats really sad. This behavior will only shift more developers over to windows mobile.

@Ray: I agree. I see Windows Mobile is more attractive now. I don’t like this to happen, but let’s just hope that Symbian improves the process.

Hi Antony!
I totally share your feelings!
SymbianSigned is faceless company with ultimately arrogant attitude towards developers. Shame SS and Nokia!

It\’s a sad state of affairs, Anthony. I just want you to know that despite the utter disregard that SS shows toward small developers, the Symbian community holds you and your work in very high regard!
Hopefully SS will get their act together some day soon and you can pick this project up once again.

THIS IS SERIOUSLY BAD!
It\’s a shame Symbian and Nokia have slid down.
With my simple mind cannot understand how this is possible?!
…And also I don\’t know what could help (them fix their system)

I\’ve sent my first version of PhoNetInfo (v1.2.0) to Symbian Signed in December 2006 and got the signed version at the end of March 2007!!!
Then, at the beginning of August 2007 I submitted again a new version and didn\’t get a reply till now…
Today I sent an email directly to Zishan from Cellmania. I don\’t expect a reply…
You can download the latest signed version of my app here:
http://www.patrickfrei.ch/phonetinfo/
The latest unsigned version is available in a special section:
http://www.patrickfrei.ch/phonetinfo/downloads_unsigned.html
So at least developers and users with profound knowledge can continue to use my application…
