I agree that Symbian Signed process is not exactly intuitive for a lay 3rd party developer.
However, I appreciate the kind of security Symbian OS is providing via the PlatSec model and Symbian Signed. At least, unlike Apple, they don't claim 3rd party applications are the only reason that causes phone crashes.
But yes: Symbian Signed can be made a bit easier to use.

<blockquote>If I bought an iPhone, I would have written my first clumsy app for it tonight. It is simply impossible with the Symbian phone. Even with PyS60</blockquote>

Artem,

You cannot compare different things. What you create with Aptana are just web applications... Not REAL iPhone applications. If you want to go that way, you could just create a WAP application to run in your Symbian device.

Apple didn\'t learn the lesson, in my opinion, because if they did, they would have released a good SDK that would allow us to develop REAL iPhone Apps. They wouldn\'t need to concern about IDE... We have Eclipse and Netbeans today. A good SDK and a plugin would be enough.

Best Regards,
Caio Proiete

> In my opinion, Symbian is trying to kill small developers

I guess they just don\'t care since 3rd parties are very indirect source of money for them, they get money from licensees. It takes a mental effort to realize that at some point licenses sales might suffer if it is difficult for them to support the 3rd parties.

By the way, Apple learned the lesson perfectly. See the eye-opening screencast of the Aptana IDE - http://aptana.com/iphone/
It\'s just HTML/JavaScript/AJAX with the fast and FREE IDE available for Mac, PC, and Linux.
