Solving "Unable to delete file" on Screenshot for Symbian OS (S60 3rd)
Screenshot April 28th. 2007, 9:14amSome of you may have seen this problem when trying to uninstall Screenshot for Symbian OS (S60 3rd). You cannot uninstall the application at all. The installer always says “Unable to delete file”.
What is going on here? It seems there is a bug on some of S60 3rd devices. For some unknown reasons, the installer cannot remove backup information file. It happens when Screenshot for Symbian OS (S60 3rd) is installed on the memory card. If it is installed on the phone memory, it won’t happen.
How to solve the problem?
- Connect your device to the PC in “Mass storage” mode.
- Browse to the memory card to \private\20000555 folder.
- Delete a file called backup_registration.xml.
- Now you should be able to uninstall Screenshot for Symbian OS (S60 3rd).
I am working to solve this bug on the latest version, i.e. 2.80. Please stay tune.

I think it would be interesting to learn what phones this happens on. I have never seen this occur so far (though using backup registration files in my own installers for quite a while) - until I started installing over the top of existing installations of my software on the N95.
So I wonder if this is an FP1-specific problem, or if anyone has seen this on a pre-FP1 device as well…

@Marcus: I haven’t tested on all devices. However, I have seen this on Nokia N73 and E61. I don’t have N95 yet.

@harun: Is it my application or another one? If it is another application, I would suggest contacting the developers. I don’t give support for other applications.

I install screenshot 2.50 on my E50, but i can\’t uninstall it!

Just wanna say thanks to Antony for this great application.. This application is useful when i play games on my n73 and i need to take a screenshot when playing. Thanks a lot!!

i av a nokia n81.i installed a game and on the memory card and upon removing the application it says unable to remove application.i will try the solution above.thanx much for the hint
