Screenshot Problem on Latest Firmware of Nokia E61
Screenshot September 13th. 2006, 3:23pmI have been receiving some emails from the users of my freeware, Screenshot for Symbian OS (for S60 3rd Edition). They said the shortcut does not work any more in the latest firmware of Nokia E61. The main shortcut, Edit+OK works after some tweaking. Read agwe23’s post in his blog, Screenshot works!!!. The second shortcut, Edit+*, seems do not work at all.
Oh no…. What has Nokia done in their latest firmware? Do they change the key code? I was so surprise because Nokia has promised about compatibility across S60 devices and all future S60 versions. Now something is broken in the latest firmware of Nokia E61.
I still don’t know what causes the problem here. I don’t have Nokia E61; so I have to borrow it from someone before I can investigate. I hope I can get Nokia E61 with the latest firmware soon. I will post my finding in this blog as soon as possible.
If anyone of you know what has been changed in the latest firmware, please let me know.

Am I the only one alive not experiencing bugs with the new E61 FW? Screenshot 2 works perfectly well on my newly flashed device.

@Daniel: Good question. I am still trying to borrow Nokia E61 to test it myself.
One of my users said that he just upgraded to firmware 2.0618.06.05 (14-07-06 RM-89) and the second shortcut (Edit+*) doesn’t work.

Just as a FYI, the same behaviour seems to be exhibited on my N93 running firmware v10.0.25 (12-07-06 RM-55) – i.e. the Edit + * combination fails.

I don’t have this device either (where should I borrow one?)
Anyway, thanks for the info.

I have updated my firmware on my E16 and your application still works. I don’t have experienced any problems.

Thanks for all the comments. I have ordered E61 loan yesterday. Hope I will get it in the next couple of days, so that I can verify it.

The problem could be related to the number keypad bug (or feature) introduced int the latest firmware for the E61. In some applications (Opera, Calcium before the author corrected it, etc) if you press a number it doesn’t seem to work unless you press (and keep pressing) the blue button at the same tiem. Which basically creates the need of using 2 hands for a shortcut. The shortcuts fro navigating the menus are also affected, check this for more information http://www.e-series.org/archives/111
